CHORUS - Click here for more information |
TEACHER - MRS ALLISON KANE
EMAIL - [email protected] Chorus is open to all students in grades 9-12. Choral performance is in an ensemble setting. Training is in basic music writing and musicianship. The study includes proper nomenclature, major and minor scales, some keyboard experience, diction, ear training, research and listening to outstanding artists and some small ensemble singing. Sight singing (solfeggio) is an integral part of chorus. The chorus performs all types of choral music from early Renaissance to the present including quality show and contemporary pop music. Activities of the chorus include concerts both in and out of school, assemblies, musical comedies and music festivals. Students intending to participate in Choral District auditions must be a member of chorus. We will learn the Senior District piece each fall and students are highly encouraged to audition. District auditions are virtual. There is a $15 fee to apply. While students may enroll in this course for more than one year, successful completion of the course will satisfy only one credit toward the Fine Arts course requirement for graduation. |
About the Director...
My name is Allison Kane, and I am currently a staff member at North Reading High School. I wear many hats throughout the day which include the director of theatre arts, choral director, acappella director (NOTEorious), Masquers director, video production teacher, English teacher, Performing Arts manager, mentor and pot luck guru.
I grew up in Cuyahoga Falls, OH where I was in the awesome Tiger Marching Band and the award winning M & M's Show Choir. In High School, I was the recording secretary of the National Honor Society, on Homecoming Court (twice), in the musical my senior year, and played volleyball and softball. After graduation I attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London England studying Classical Theatre. I got my BFA in Musical Theatre from Ithaca College and performed professionally both acting, film/tv and improv comedy. I have my Masters in Theater and Communication Education from the College of St Catherine.
My formal teaching career started in 1997 in Ohio where I taught high school chorus and show choir and directed the theater group after school I moved to Minnesota and obtained my Masters in Education with a focus in Communications and Theatre. While in Minnesota, I performed in and directed numerous theatre groups but my favorite was Comedy Sportz. (www.comedysportztc.com) I taught 8th grade English for one year at Falcoln Ridge Middle School and 7th grade Communications and Theatre at Dakota Hills Middle School. In 2006 I moved to MA and was thrilled to be hired as the high school choral, theatre and video production director here in North Reading. I am also the Performing Arts Manager for the NRPS.
Outside of teaching, I keep busy with my two sons, Henry and Phineas. I love to design kitchens and homes, I plan parties and celebrations. (AlliKatEvents.weebly.com) Check out my sons youtube and face book channels "COOKING WITH FINN" as he tries to become a Master JR Chef.
I am a very passionate person, who loves life, people, theatre, and keeping busy. There is rarely a day where I don't say "I love my job". I expect the most out of people and believe that success is 10% talent, 90% luck and 110% effort. You give, you get. It is what it is. Stay humble and kind, work hard and we're going to have a great time!
